Meet a McDonald's Mom

My name is Courtney Holeman and I am a McDonald's franchisee in the Baltimore Washington Region of McDonald's USA.

To me, McDonald's means family. Along with my brother and sister, I am a proud second generation McDonald's franchisee. My first job was with McDonald's as a crew member working for my father, who has been a franchisee for 25 years. While I attended James Madison University, I held another job in event planning but always worked at McDonald's during school breaks. McDonald's has always been an important part of my family because we are able to work together. My brother, Craig, operates two restaurants and my sister, Ashley, operates one. Even my husband, Corey, is on his way to being an approved franchisee. In addition to being a franchisee, I work full-time for all of our 30 family restaurants as the Vice President of Personnel.

As much as McDonald's is a big part of my life, my family is most important to me. I have two children; a seven-year-old daughter, Jordan, and a four-year-old son, Jalen. I love my children more than anything. When I come home at night, and they hear the garage door opening, they come running up the stairs yelling, "Mommy you are home!" It makes me feel so good to get that big hug and kiss from them every day. I love watching them grow, and when I hold their hands I can feel how much bigger they are getting. I enjoy every experience that I have with them.

I think that a working mother has to take responsibility for making her own schedule. The activities and important events that go on with my family come first. However, the child-friendly work environment at McDonald's allows me to bring my children to many events. I usually bring my kids with me when I go out of town for longer business trips because it gives them the opportunity to see what Mommy does at work, and it also exposes them to my work/family balance. My family and I do a lot of things together. The best thing is when we have Family Fun Night, which we try to do every other month. My entire family gets together at one of our houses and we watch movies, play games, and eat a lot of food! This is a great opportunity to spend time together without it being work-related. This is important since our whole family works together.

I have always been a supporter of the Ronald McDonald House® and feel that what the House does for families is remarkable. I often run into people who have benefitted from what the House offers. I took advantage of the opportunity to join the Moms Quality Correspondent's at the Northern Virginia Ronald McDonald House and brought along my family. It was a great time to showcase to my children how important the House is to families in need. My children commented that it looks just like a regular house and my daughter even said that it is so nice for the sick kids and families to have such a cool place to stay. For my children to understand that the House is there to make a family feel comfortable in their time of need is great. I was happy to spend some time with the Moms Quality Correspondents so that they can recognize what a great program McDonald's supports through Ronald McDonald House Charities®.
